"Amazing Grace"

The last movie that we saw in a theater was "Amazing Grace", an excellent movie about William Wilberforce and John Newton. Those of you who pay attention to your hymn books will remember that John Newton was the author of the lyrics of Amazing Grace. If you don't know the story behind his life and the writing of the hymn, you really ought to see that movie when it comes out on DVD.

Shortly after seeing the movie we were in Mardel's, one of the large Christian Bookstore chains in this area, and saw a beautiful wall art. We both loved it and could just imagine it on the wall of our living room. But neither of us cared for the price, so we left it behind. This week when Debbie was in the store, she saw that same art piece on the summer sale table at 75% off.

It now hangs in our living room and we still love it! And it's a perfect fit, both in size and decor. God's grace really is amazing!! And we love having our home reflect His love and grace, just as we desire that our lives also give a similar reflection.

(By the way, if any of you who aren't too sure about contemporary Christian music, you might be interested to know that many churches in old England would not accept "Amazing Grace" at first because it was "too modern"). Interesting. If you're not sure of the meaning of "contemporary music", it usually refers to songs written in the current generation and whose author is still living. Thus, our "contemporaries", as the word is used.
