Welcome to the New Forest of Argyle

We're working on making our new house into our home. And one big task was to plant some new growth in the backyard. We had one pinoak tree when we arrived. A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of the first step -- 3 small redbud trees. And as I mentioned, thanks to the big storms I got to replant them a couple of days later. Now take a look.

Added to the pinoak and redbud trees is a Jasmine tree that we purchased in Missouri last weekend as we were leaving Mike & Joanne's house for our drive home. And take a look at that terrific cast iron bird bath that Joanne & Mike gave us as a "House Warming Gift" for our new home! It really fits right in to our yard, both in size and appearance! Here's hoping the birds will check it out real soon. We've had a lot of hummingbirds checking out the new feeders. Maybe they'll want a bath soon.

Next came two dwarf plum trees and one dwarf cherry tree (self-pollinating). The large shrub in by the cherry tree came from the front flower bed, replaced there by a native Crape Myrtle that I'll show you later.

Behind the park bench are three blackberry bushes and two raspberry bushes. Will they grow in this fine Texas prairie clay? Will any of these grow in this fine Texas prairie clay? Ask me again in a couple of months. The redbuds should since they are native to Texas. The rest? We'll know soon.

Fixing up the yard is the part I enjoy most and will enjoy seeing those that survive and grow and thrive.

By the way, this is my contribution to the environment and to global warming. I have a feeling it will contribute much more than Al Gore's "carbon offsets", whatever that is. Of course I really have no opinion on that, as you can tell.

I thought you would enjoy this last picture -- our dwarf cherry tree. No, that greenery you see at the top is not on the cherry tree -- it is on the bush (not George or Laura) that I moved to the backyard. We probably won't get our first cherry pie for 2-3 years. But the anticipation will be fun. There are little buds all over the tree, but not a branch to be seen ... yet.

Have a blessed weekend! It's Mother's Day weekend!
