This evening as we were watching the news on TV we learned that one of the outstanding Gospel Musicians of our time headed home to Heaven early this morning following a crash of her tour bus. Dottie Rambo is probably one of the most widely known Gospel Musicians. Early reports indicate that the crash was weather-related.
Even if a person doesn't recognize her name, they'll probably recognize at least a few of the 2,500 songs she wrote. Her songs include "We Shall Behold Him", "Holy Spirit, Thou Art Welcome", "I Go to the Rock", "I've Never Been This Homesick Before", "Sheltered In The Arms of God", and hundreds more. And don't forget "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need".
"Amazing Grace' shall always be my song of praise, For it was grace that brought me liberty. I do not know just why He came to love me so, He looked beyond my fault and saw my need". Some of her songs literally carried me through some of the tough days of the past.
Dottie Rambo was 74 years old and still actively touring and singing for the Lord. She has been writing songs and singing praises to our Lord since she was 12 years old. I had the privilege of hearing her sing in person one time in a church in Tulsa back in the mid-1980s. What a powerful and blessed evening!
We'll be singing her songs for years to come, but she is singing with the Lord this evening.
And just a reminder on a Mother's Day when Dottie died, along with so many people in Northeastern Oklahoma and Southwestern Missouri during a severe tornado today. None of us know what the next day will bring to us -- no matter how much we think we've got it all under control, we must be walking with Jesus as our Lord and Savior and be ready for whatever comes!
And in spite of a term some folks use, it's never a matter of "if something happens", but "when something happens". Get ready now! That's what our ministries are all about, including the ministry of Dottie Rambo!
