Another Special Day We Remember

This is another special day that Debbie and I remember! It has so much to do with all that has happened since then.

In a blog on May 7 I told you about the anniversary of the day Debbie and I spoke by phone the first time 19 years ago. A few days later on May 11, something happened that had equally as much impact on our future. She called again!

The first time she called she was trying to reach Marion Bond West, the writer for Guidepost manazine, who had, along with her husband Gene Acuff, become very good friends to me and for whom I was house-sitting.

The second time Debbie called she was asking for the address where she could write to Marion in Georgia. She told me later that she really struggled with calling again -- concerned about calling a man she really didn't know. So she prayed about what she should do. She would open her Bible and read some, but find nothing with any direction. Then she said she prayed and told God that she had to see something giving her direction or else she would not call. She let her Bible fall open (some religious folks say you shouldn't do this, but it certainly worked that day!) and it opened to a scripture in Isaiah (NASB), chapter 55, where she came to verse 5 that said,

"Behold, you will call a nation you do not know and a nation that knows you not will run to you. Because of the Lord your God, even the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you."

She said she gasped because of how blunt and direct it was -- and than she called.

And yes, she did ask for and I gave her Marion's address so she could send her story. But then I asked her to send me a copy so I could read it too.

Our friendship starting building and has continued to all that it is now! And I'm so thankful!
