I was just thinking about the "interesting" flight I was on to get to Calgary today and thought I would tell you about it. I was booked for a nonstop American Airlines flight from DFW to Calgary -- a 4-hour flight. I had a good seat reserved and all appeared on schedule.
When I got to the airport this morning and checked in, I saw that they had moved me to the back row of the plane, right next to the coach bathroom doors. I asked about moving and they said, "sorry, the flight is completely full". Of course they didn't know why my reserved seat went away.
Sure enough, the flight was completely full. 137 passengers -- and over 100 of them were excited women. I'm convinced some of them might not have been allowed out of town most of their lives -- for good reason. It turns out, there is a "Sweet Adelines" convention in Calgary this week -- and all those excited women were coming here to sing and compete.
At least I understood why all the spaces for carry-on luggage were full. And they announced that some baggage had to be placed on another flight since the plane was too heavy for the trip.
As we were deplaning I was talking with one lady from Australia. I mentioned that with all those singers on board, we didn't have one song! So she sang "Old McDonald" to me.
Like I said, it was an interesting flight.
