Kandid in Kansas City

It only took two days to get across the state of Iowa. When we left Clear Lake this morning we were able to drive at a reasonable speed -- for a short time. Though the sky was clear and the road was fairly clear, there was still much ice on the interstate, with much of it where ice had melted from the heat of vehicles, then refroze. That slowed us down to a much more comfortable drive.

As we crossed Iowa we saw 50 or more vehicles in the ditches along the interstate, including one that was on its top and a couple of vans that had rolled. That helped us be quite satisfied with taking our time across the state. We arrived in Kansas City about sundown so decided to spend the night here and not drive in the dark.

We hope to start early in the morning and see if we can make it all the way home. That will depend mostly on the condition of the highway across Kansas and Oklahoma. I'll tell you more about that on my next blog.

Sounds like great motivation for slow driving!

I agree! In one-mile section today I saw 2 cars spin out into the ditch. I had to smile to myself as I passed one since he had driven like a nut going quite fast down the turn lane (aka the Spin-out lane). He should have shown more patience and driven in the lanes of traffic like the rest of us.

I hope you make it home safe and sound.
