Comfy in Clear Lake

It's Sunday and once again we're headed south out of MN and chasing winter storms. When we moved in early December there was a big snow storm just a day ahead of us. This time it is an ice storm just ahead of us.

It was too cold to leave Gabriel in the car for over an hour, so when we went to Northwood this morning we didn't stay for the worship service. We only got to visit with a few good friends -- but that was a very nice treat.

We headed south as soon as we left and had great traveling weather all the way to the southern part of MN. When we stopped for fuel in Albert Lea MN just north of the Iowa border, the snow started and got heavier by the minute. We started on south, but with the blowing snow, high wind, and reports of much snow and ice in the Ames/Des Moines area, we decided to make it a short travel day and stopped in Clear Lake Iowa. Forecast is a bit better for tomorrow, so we'll try again and see how far we can get.

The late news this evening reported many vehicles off the road or in serious collisions in the immediate vicinity of where we are. We saw emergency vehicles going out of Clear Lake northbound on I-35 shortly after we arrived at our hotel and learned this evening that a car left the road and hit a bridge pylon just north of here. No one survived. We made a good decision to stop.

Have a blessed and warm evening. More updates from wherever we get to Monday evening.
