Valley Forge PA

Last Friday and Saturday I was in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, for business meetings. When our work was completed Saturday afternoon, we saw that Valley Forge National Monument was just two miles away and that we had about 20 minutes for a quick drive through the park before having to go to the airport for the flight home. So off we went.
First stop was at the Valley Forge Visitor Center to pick up some information. Maybe later I can go back and actually enjoy all the historical information. This is a critical area in the formation of our nation.

If you remember your history, General Washington and many members of the Revolutionary Army camped at Valley Forge for the winter. That winter is still on record as being one of the worst ever for the area.

General Washington stayed in a farm house nearby. The officers stayed in small cabins like the ones shown here.

All the enlisted men camped in tents out across the fields below, grouped by colony or regiment, all through the long, bitter winter. Some gave up and left, others lost hands and/or feet to the frostbite, and others died.
No doubt there were some who wanted to raise the white flag and surrender, just as do some today. But those who survived and stuck it out went on to win that war, giving us the start of hte great nation we enjoy.
I would have loved to have more time to see the area, including the monument arch below and the baking pit below that. But it's a funny thing about those airlines. They leave when they are scheduled (or within a few hours after, sometimes) whether the passengers are all there or not. And since I wanted to get home Saturday night, I decided to head on to the Philadelphis airport.

There is so much history in this area of the country. Maybe if a few more people spent some time to remember how we got to where we are, maybe they wouldn't be in such a hurry to turn it all over to a bunch of white flag liberals who want to blot out God from our history and from our future.
God bless -- and guide -- America!
