A Very Special Evening

The family traditions in Colombia have some very special moments. David had planned to meet with Mila's Mom and ask her permission to propose marriage to Mila. Apparently Mila's Mom had an idea what was to take place.

I don't know -- could David's inviting his Dad to join him suggest something special to her? Maybe - but I was sure happy to have been there Friday evening.
Pictures are Mila and her Mom, along with Mila's Aunt. Also present were Mila's brother, Gabriel, Mila's Grandpa, her Aunt's daughter. That was a great time, though I have to tell you that David and Mila were rather quiet through the dinner time. Here is Mila with her Mom and her brother, Gabriel.

After dinner and before dessert we all relaxed and visited a little bit. Then while David and Mila and I were at one end of the dinner table visiting, we noticed that all of the family gathered at the other end of the table. When someone said, "OK, David, you're on", I saw David turn the brightest red that I've ever seen on him, from his neck, all the way across his shiny head.

His first reaction was -- "Isn't there any more family who could join us?" But then he went ahead, speaking from his heart, shared his feelings for Mila and asked their permission and blessing. At least I'm pretty sure that's what he said -- I don't really know since he was speaking Spanish -- very well, at that.

They each responded with comments about their love for Mila and their desire that she be loved and cared for; I shared much the same from David's family perspective. During all that time, except for the time I was speaking, David wasn't able to interpret it all for me -- but I have a feeling I know what was being said. And it was a very precious moment.
Mila's Mom and Grandpa had some happy visits with David after the family meeting was completed and toasted with champagne. I think they are confident that they are getting a good son-in-law. I'm very confident that we Russells are getting a precious daughter-in-law.

David and Yolanda wrapped up the evening playing Tetris on the television and PlayStation.
