
On this day in 1776 the Congress of the 13 United States of America adopted the Declaration of Independence. It was a month later when the 56 men signed it in the way that we see copies of it today.
The first paragraph is the one that most people think of and that stands out so well:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
So much in that sentence is so foreign to so many today. "We hold these truths to be self-evident" -- no one should have to teach or declare these truths -- they are 'self-evident'. What truths? First, that all men are created equal. Isn't it amazing that a statement that was considered "self-evident" in 1776 is still not recognized by so many today, including people of all races, religions, faiths, politicians, even among some who claim the name of Christ.
Second, that they were "endowed by their creator"... a statement that would never be accepted today by the ACLU or other left-wing folks. Think what our nation would have started like if there had been an ACLU in 1776.
I didn't get a vote for where I would live when I was born. I'm sure thankful that God let me be born in the USA!
