Last Sunday morning we participated in worship at Cross Timbers Church, located about 4 miles south of our home in Argyle. They were just starting a study called "One Prayer", a call to prayer with about 1,500 churches around the world. As they showed video clips from churches in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and various parts of the US, my mind went to work (Hey, it needed the exercise, so that's ok).
Try to imagine how many people on any given Sunday are participating in worship. Don't worry for the moment about whether their worship is exactly like yours -- just try to imagine. We all know it could be more when you consider the number of unbeliever's for whom Sunday is just another day. Of course a lot of people who claim to be believers also feel the same way. But on any given Sunday, think of all the people who are involved in some form of Christian worship -- in your church, your city, your state. Then move on to the nation, then to the continent. Now bring in the believers in Central and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and so many more areas. With the many cultures of the world, we don't all worship the same way, we don't all have the same practices or interpretations or preferences. But we all worship our risen Savior.
If you think about it too much, you just might get a little overwhelmed. But it really can take us beyond the mistaken feeling that our little church (they're all small compared to the big picture) is the only one and that all should be just like ours. No, I'm not becoming a universalist. But it can be amazing to to consider the universal purpose of the Gospel.
Jesus Christ really is the Savior of the World! "...Whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everylasting life!"
