You know me --- I love to fly, even though the airlines have taken much of the enjoyment out of it at times. But in this case I just wanted to share a picture of the Toronto Airport Terminal building as I was preparing to fly home.
With all the focus on aircraft inspections this past week we are reminded that these cylindrical cans of people, with wings and a couple of engines, really are fragile, mechanical devices that we have come to take for granted.
For years my Dad inspected the engines on the planes and would tell me about some of the things that would happen to be sure the engines ran well to get the plane safely to its destination.
In all my years of flying I'm still amazed when I see these planes go over or when I'm on one that takes off, filled with people, luggage, food (well, they call it that in first class), drinks and tons of fuel and cargo -- and yet with all that load, they lift majestically into the air and take their load safely to someplace around the country or around the world.
As one little girls said who was boarding the plane just ahead of me when leaving Toronto when she walked on board and looked down that long aisle with so many seats, "Wow"!
