Ever since communism fell several years ago the people of Russia have enjoyed something they had not had since the early 1900's -- Freedom of Religion. Missionary and Evangelical groups from across the US and other countries began to minister in Russia, sharing the Good News with the millions of people there.
As might be expected, that has caused much distress to the state church, the Russian Orthodox Church. Much pressure has been applied to stop the intrusion of foreign missionary and evangelical groups. And now, with the power change in Russia under Mr. Putin, things are about to change.
In only 90 days, the freedom of groups from outside of Russia to take the Gospel to the people of Russia will come to an end. Basically, visas for religious workers will be terminated. Several groups are working with the Russian government to seek a grandfather clause to allow those already present to be allowed to stay. But that will require a change in the current law that will take effect in 90 days.
Please pray for the people of Russia and for a change in the heart of the government leaders. They have only a short time remaining for this to happen.
