We hope you've had a wonderful Easter Sunday! We had the unique opportunity to attend worship twice in worship services that were totally opposite from each other.
First, the church where we have attended more than others since we've been here is Cross Timbers Church, with the main campus located about 3 miles south of us. They also have a campus in Keller TX about 20 miles south of us, and this weekend began a location in Denton, about 10 miles north of us. With the 3 locations, they had a total of 5 services at each location, with 2 on Saturday evening and 3 this morning. So we attended one of the first Denton services yesterday evening. It seemed sort of different celebrating Easter Sunday on Saturday evening. But the fact is, we celebrate the resurrection every Sunday -- and once a year many others in the world join us.
This morning we drove over to Stonebriar Church in Frisco TX where Chuck Swindoll is Pastor. (You may know his name from his daily radio broadcasts, tons and tons of books, and that he is President of Dallas Theological Seminary). He is one of the finest Bible teachers of today's generation.
The two services were about as different from each other as they could possibly be, though they were both focuses completely on the worship of and celebration of our Lord's resurrection. Cross Timbers is completely contemporary (that means they sing songs written in the current generation -- many praise and worship choruses) and the whole tone of the worship service is geared toward those who do not have a tradition of a more formal or traditional worship.
Stonebriar, on the other hand, is very traditional, singing the wonderful old hymns, an anthem by their choir, and an outstanding message by Pastor Swindoll.
Which church is better? It would all depend on personal preference of worship style. But in the mind of heaven, they are both proclaiming the Gospel and reaching people for Christ. Those reached by Stonebriar probably wouldn't be interested in the Cross Timber ministry, and those reached by Cross Timber probably wouldn't be touched by Stonebriar's ministry style. But both do an outstanding work of ministry to the people who need Jesus! And we are doubly blessed today from two great worship services.
I hope you made it to church today to celebrate our Lord.
I have a day off from work tomorrow and just might be able to write some more here. Have a wonderful week.
Because He lives, we can really live! Blessings to you and yours this Easter Sunday!
