The Adventure Continues

It's Friday night and we're in Wichita KS. We started off slowly from Des Moines this morning, but made good time across lower Iowa, Northern Missouri and across Kansas. There was evidence of the snow they had yesterday but most of it was gone by the time we came across the area. It was still cold, but the bright shining sun was with us all the way. Once again, God cleared the way for us as we travel southbound. We are very thankful.

While driving from Kansas City to Wichita this evening, we found a radio station that carried American Family Radio and heard from really good Bible studies by Dr. Adrian Rogers, former Pastor (now with the Lord) at Bellevue Church in Memphis where Bruce and Becky used to attend before moving to their present church, and another by Michael Youssef, the Pastor of the church where David attended for a while in Atlanta. That was a nice blessing along the way.

Dr. Rogers was teaching on Sovereign Grace -- very good study. Dr. Youssef started his teaching on Psalm 23 with a slight transliteration that was thought-provoking -- "The Lord is my pacesetter, I shall not rush..." This was a nice refreshment at the end of a long day of driving.

The only snow incident came in the parking lot of the hotel when we arrived in Wichita. This is a large hotel with a very small parking lot. The only way I could get the truck out of the non-parking area where I stopped to register was to drive down a single lane drive to the rear of the hotel and turn around in a very small service area. Well, you don't turn this vehicle around in a small area. When I tried to back up to complete the turn, the rear wheels were in an ice pack and I had no traction. After trying all the normal tricks to free it from the ice and back up, I gave up and took the only remaining option: I went forward, over the curb -- had the entire rig up in the yard of the hotel, but was able to make the turn and get back on the road and return to park. At least this was in a driveway and not on the highway.

Tomorrow we head on to Oklahoma where the wind is probably still sweeping down the plain -- I'll post another update then. Blessings to you and yours!

An interesting fact for all you Okies: The people in Minnesota complain about their high taxes and they do have one of the highest tax rates in the country. But when we moved from Oklahoma to Minnesota, our taxes went DOWN. That says something about the work of the state politicians in Oklahoma.
