The Biscuits Are In the Oven!

When I was very young and we lived in a little house on Archer Street in East Tulsa, every Sunday morning my Mother would make some homemade biscuits for breakfast. Bear in mind this was long before the day of having various kinds of cereal available for a choice. We might have Kellogg's Corn Flakes sometime during the week (we thought there was only one cereal made), maybe oatmeal on another day -- but always homemade biscuits on Sunday morning.

By the time we got dressed and ready for breakfast we were usually very ready for those fresh biscuits and butter and maybe some sorghum. And if we were a bit early for breakfast, the message was "The biscuits are in the oven", and we would have to wait. There was no window in the oven back then, so you just waited, wondering what was going to come out of there.

In the middle of this strange story is another I'm happy to tell you. After a morning of stressful negotiating that went right down to the last minute, we have a deal in the works on our house in Elk River. It will be another week before it is really a completed contract, but the deal is in the works. As I thought about it, for some strange reason it reminded me of "The biscuits are in the oven". We'll find out in a week what comes out of the oven. But at least something is cooking! And for that we are thrilled.

I'll let you know what happens when the biscuits are finished.

I thought about the scripture in Isaiah 40 -- "But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

Could "waiting on the Lord" be anything at all like "waiting on the biscuits"? Well, it was just a thought.
