Grandpa Russell

I thought you might be interested in knowing that today would have been Grandpa Russell's 90th birthday had he lived. September 27, 1916 was his birthday. No, I'm talking my Dad, not me. I'm actually the third "Grandpa Russell" of the current living generation. My Dad's Dad was my Grandpa Russell. Then my Dad became Grandpa Russell to all our children. I hope I can always be a good "Grandpa Russell". I have the legacy of a couple of good predecessors -- and now it's my turn.

One of these days I'll try to get you some information on the Grandpa Russells of earlier generations, but for now this is my day to express appreciation for my Dad on his birthday.

Just me said...

I always knew that Derek's birthday was only 2 days after my Grandpa Russell's birthday.

Grandpa was a great grandpa. I remember the fun horsey rides he'd give all 3 kids. That trip to Disney World was one I'll never forget. I remember Grandpa dropping quarters into the vibrating bed and having all 3 kids lay there giggling. Now that I look back at that, maybe he and Grandma were trying to get us to go to sleep. Either way, it was fun! I remember the fun I had with them after I graduated from high school. They would call me and ask me if I wanted to go to lunch and to bring my beach bag. They loved taking day trips and surprising me. I remember going to places like Galveston, Harlingen, and best of all was Hawaii. They were a ton of fun! I am so glad that I always had an excellent relationship with my grandparents. Grandma had always wanted the three of us to skip over to England, but he lost his battle with cancer before that time came.

I'd love to learn more about his family and Grandma's family. I'd also like a copy of the family history from our great aunts hard work. I know they dug and dug for lots of information.

How are the great aunts and great uncles anyway? I used to hear from some of them, but haven't in quite some time.

I'm so glad I have the good memories to look back on and smile.
