Cheaha State Park in Alabama

As we drove through the Talladega National Forest we came to the Cheaha State Park in Alabama. Cheaha comes from the Creek language meaning "high place", named since this is the highest point in Alabama, about 2,600 feet elevation.

As we drove through the park we came to a trail head to a place called "Pulpit Rock". You might expect that I would get excited about walking to a place called "Pulpit Rock" -- so we went for a hike. All 3 of us!

For a while I was concerned that Gabriel might break his face, smiling so big. He had a ball going down the trail, over the rocks, up and down the hills and looking out over the wide-open spaces.

By the time we got back to the van, Gabriel was completely worn out and slept most of the rest of the day as we drove across Alabama and Mississippi. The return hike was a pretty aggressive uphill climb much of the way and wore out all of us. But we successfully got our 30# of rocks back to the van for our vacation rock garden at home!
I'll be posting a few more pictures from the beautiful drive through the Talladega National Forest, so be sure to check back again soon. I've never seen the movie "Talladega Nights", but we sure did enjoy the Talladega Days on this trip.
