HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

I hope you're having a happy 4th of July today! God Bless America!

This is our first one in Denton TX. I've told you before that Denton is very old city. While the state of Oklahoma is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, the city of Denton is celebrating 150 years since it was started. They keep up a lot of old traditions here which we think are pretty neat.

They started the 4th of July this morning with a 5K run (I thought about it, but need to do some more running before I'm ready again for a 5K -- maybe next time). Then at 9:00 they had an old-fashioned 4th of July parade around the town square and out to Quakertown Park a couple of blocks out from the square. The old courthouse in the center of the square was built in 1896. Yes, it's an old city. But it's very much alive with traditions and patriotism.

The local Denton Kiwanis are planning their annual fireworks display at the University of North Texas football stadium this evening if the rains don't come. Right now there is 80% chance for more rain (as we've had nearly every day for the last couple of months). We've had a shower already today, but in mid-afternoon we have a traditional very hot Texas sun.

We joined in on the fun, had our all-American hotdog, lots of good music at the park, and all the kids fun and games.
