It was a warm, sunny Saturday -- a perfect day to get some of the backyard projects done that had been on hold for a while. The projects started with the usual -- mowing, edging, followed by hanging the remaining "topsy turvy tomatos" on the fence -- too heavy for the shepherd's hooks where they had started.
The smoker was next. I actually got it a bit too hot at first -- not unusual for the first time of the summer to fire it up. Next time will be better -- and that could come this afternoon.
The lunch-time small steaks were great! The ribs cooked well with only one small complication -- the "chef" fell asleep in the lounge chair, leaving the ribs on just an hour or so too long. But they still tasted great, though one of us here doesn't like eating things that have a black appearance.
We had a small flower bed that is now a little bit larger just off the patio. There's just nothing like that fine prairie clay. I remembered one nursery person when we moved here who reminded us why this area was prairie and not forests for so many years. I'll let you know if I'm able to get anything more to grow here. After two years of working the small growing area we do have some small plants and one oleander surviving. Ole seems to like being included in the flowerbed now instead of being off on his own.
More fun times from the backyard as we see if anything will grow.
