Today Debbie and I were in Ft. Gibson Oklahoma for my Aunt's graveside service. This is a National Cemetery with thousands of people buried who served our nation over the years and many spouses. Uncle Melvin served our country, as did most men of that generation, so he and Dorothy were eligible for burial in the National Cemetery.

It's always such an amazing time to drive into a National Cemetery. All the grave stones so elegantly aligned, a reflection of so many who have served our country to help get protect it and allow it to continue as a wonderful home.

There is just one shelter in the cemetery where graveside service are held. Because of the aging of those who have served in past times dating back to World War II, they now have services every hour of the weekday. Services can last only 30 minutes to allow transition from one family to the next.
Today there was a very cold wind and we were thankful the service lasted only 30 minutes. The seats in the shelter are concrete. And today, that was some of the coldest concrete we had ever sat on.

I can't go into a place like this without having a deep sense of appreciation and honor for all of those who have lived and served to keep our nation free. God bless America! And God bless all those who have served -- and their spouses who waited and prayed faithfully for them during times of war.
