The Big, Bigger, Biggest Full Moon

I was out in the backyard earlier this evening and noticed that the full moon looked really big. And sure enough, the news confirms it. This evening the moon is at its closest point to planet earth this evening. The average distance of the moon to the earth is 238,855 miles. Tonight it is only 221,560 miles. So enjoy it while you can.

By the way, NASA reports that there is no scientific evidence that a full moon really makes people crazy.

That same NASA article also reports that the full is never actually completely full. For that to happen the moon, earth and sun have to be in perfect alignment. But then it would be a total eclipse since the moon would be in the shadow of the earth.

Again, enjoy it while you can.

I love that picture! I wish I would have seen the moon when it was big and bright. I think I missed it.
