I have a feeling that when some of you read my note about the "Gospel According to Southwest Airlines" that your first thought might have been, "boy, he's strange". But I promise -- I'm not any stranger than I 've ever been.
Thursday I was in the St. Louis Airport waiting for my flight home. I did something I usually try to avoid -- I went to Burger King for a whopper jr. for lunch. The only table available was right next to the walkway where the crowds are moving along to their gates. That was ok -- I enjoy watching the people go by.
A lady carrying a dog carrier sat down across from me -- looking very frazzeled -- not unusual since she had just come through security with her little maltese puppy. She had to go through the line twice since she got there without the required paperwork for her puppy. Then she called her daughter who apparently was telling her how dumb that was for her to do that. That made her even more upset. And she told me how upset she was.
As she started to leave I encouraged her to receive a blessing from God and enjoy the peace that His presence can bring. She responded that she really needed a blessing -- lots of them. Then I said it. I confirmed that she was flying Southwest (duh, we were in the Southwest terminal, but I was trying to be gentle). Then I told her to be sure and check her napkin when they brought her drink, that there would be a message on there for her about the blessing she could receive.
She looked at me, probably like you would right now, sort of like, "huh?". Her response was, "what?". So I gave her the message -- the napkin has a Southwest logo on it -- it says "If you know where to look, you don't have to search". Then I said, "you know where to look for a blessing from God, don't you." She was still looking at me sort of strange, then said, as her expression changed, "yes, from God". Then I encouraged her just to look to God and receive a blessing from Him.
As she walked away, she said to me, "I think I just did".
I sure was blessed! I told Debbie about this and she encouraged me to share it with you, because you know where to look, too, so you don't have to search.
