I'm happy to report that after checking out many sources and trying a couple of other fixes that didn't work out, I finally found one that worked! And the hole in the bathtub finish is fixed. The Bath Wizard is pretty good stuff! Here's a "before" and "after" -- I know this will surely excite you!!
I had tried a couple of other fixes and they always washed out right away. Then I investigated the Rebath people, but the guy was always "too busy" to come give me an estimate. That turned out to be very good since my Wizard repair cost about 10% of the rebath price.

The hole doesn't look like much here -- I had already sanded away all the rust buildup.
I'm one big step closer to getting the house on the market! Come on, Buyer!
