Check Out the Oxen

Earlier this week Debbie was driving along Highway 10 going from Elk River to Anoka MN, saw an unusual site and called me. So I grabbed the camera and headed down the same highway. Each field had the usual heavy farm equipment out cutting the hay or other crops. And then right in the middle of the fields with the modern heavy equipment, we saw one field with the old hay wagon pulled by two huge oxen with a man working the oxen and gathering the hay with his hand tools. I thought you might enjoy the pictures.

Interesting! We see things like this in Ethridge, TN where the Amish harvest by hand on big wagons like that. Is there an Amish community near you?

The nearest Amish community is down in the southeastern part of the state and in northeastern Iowa, south and east of Rochester MN. The area of this picture is near a farm that is known for continuing to work in the old-time technology just so people can see how it was done years ago.
