It's late Tuesday night. This evening I received an email from Jeanette Ratliff in Enid OK telling me that Cecil Britton had died this morning. He and Arlene had recently moved to Republic Missouri, a small town near Springfield. Jeanette's email said he had gone out to water the flowers this morning and didn't come back in. Arlene found him in the yard when she went to see why he was delayed.
Cecil was one of the first people to join Liberty after we went there to serve in 1976. There was some controversy in it -- that's how I remember it well. We had good years and tough years through it all. I stood with him through his divorce -- he stood with me through mine. That's what brothers in Christ do, with no finger pointing or blame. We saw him start to get acquainted with Arlene and wondered if something more was about to happen. It did. One New Year's Eve, right after midnight in the first hour of the new year, I had the honor of uniting Cecil and Arlene in marriage. There was never a doubt that Cecil knew the Lord and loved sharing his faith with others.
He is now experiencing the full benefit of his faith, happy at home with the Lord. Please pray for Arlene. You might recall that this is the second time she has had to suffer through the loss of her husband. She is a wonderful Sister in Christ.
