Another Thought About Naini

When I was out on my early walk this morning I had another thought about Naini's memorial service yesterday. Due in part to her Indian heritage and Hindu family background, there was a wide diversity of people at her memorial service. In addition to her many Christian friends, attenders included those of the Hindu religion and Muslim ladies adorned in their full attire of long robes and coverings, etc. There may have been others. One Hindu relative that I spoke with briefly commented on how frequently Naini spoke of her Christian faith with her family.

Now, here's the thought that came to mind this morning. It's so interesting to see the number of external practices that are common to so many different faiths and cultures of the world. The fact is that almost anything external can be replicated by anyone of any faith or religion or culture. (Some of us wish that the Muslim Jihad folks would pick up on the "peaceful religion" aspects proclaimed by others of their religion). (But then, we might wish the same thing of those folks who claim to be Christian who go around doing protests in the name of Jesus at funerals for brave military personnel who have been killed in Iraq, with the horrible protests supposedly for the sake of protesting homosexuality -- what a lousy, non-biblical witness).

The only thing that differentiates Christians from all the religions of the world is one thing: Jesus Christ. That personal relationship that can exist only with a living Savior. Anything external can be copied -- but that internal difference -- there's just nothing like it anyplace! It's whats in the heart that counts. Don't get me wrong -- the external things can be nice, but are valid only if they support what is in the heart.

OK, that's my thought for the morning. Blessings to you and yours today!

I think the flower petal ceremony sounds really nice. I, too, am sorry your friend died.
